Surrounded by mountains, Tekapo is an ideal village to
base yourself for a period of snow skiing.
Lake Tekapo has three commercial ski fields and one club field within 50
minutes drive of the village.
to see a map of the area.

Other snow related businesses run in the vicinity
offering ski touring, glacier and heli-skiing.
Lake Tekapo also has a large outdoor ice skating rink on the shores of the
lake for night time activities.
Please remember when visiting any
New Zealand ski area, you are entering an alpine and mountainous region.
Take warm clothing, sun screen and sun glasses.

While each ski area has years of experience in ensuring a safe environment
exists for visitors to the area, all visitors to a mountainous area are
reminded they are in a potentially harsh environment where personal responsibility is
essential for safety.

TEKAPO TOURISM GOES SNOW CAVING
Tekapo Tourism's Greg and Bridgit Knowles are joined by friends for
a weekend's snow caving. A Saturday night rugby test between New
Zealand's All Blacks and Australia was captured by radio while
wining and dining in
the cave. |
A road,
ski-lift and building on a mountain doesn't stop
it from being a mountain.
Take care in
New Zealand's alpine regions.
|
The ski season
in the Mackenzie operates between June and October,
depending on snow conditions.
 |
Located
on the Tekapo side of the Two Thumb range, Roundhill Ski Area has
superb views of Mt. Cook, Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie Basin. The
gentle, undulating slopes of the ski area provide an ideal
environment for skiers, boarders, families and groups.
