Earth and Sky stargazing tours of Mt John observatory

Earth and Sky Observatory Tours

It was the beautiful clear skies that resulted in the building of the observatory on top of Mount John.
It is because of those same clear skies and the existence of observatory that Earth and Sky can provide visitors with informative tours of the facility.

Take a day tour and enjoy one of the best views in New Zealand. The summit of Mount John is 300 metres above the surrounding plains and provides spectacular panoramic views of the Mackenzie Country. Visit the historic telescope of the original observatory and the larger, more modern telescopes. Learn about the research that is carried out at the facility. On a clear day see the Sun through a special telescope.

Visit Mount John with Earth and Sky for one of their night tours, weather permitting. See why Lake Tekapo and Mount John were chosen as the location for the Observatory. Tour the southern sky with a knowledgeable guide and view the stars and planets through a selection of modern telescopes.

Enjoy lunch and the view in the glass-walled Astro Café, at the summit of Mt John.

Visit an operational observatory and discover how the universe is explored. Look through a telescope and enjoy one of the most picturesque locations in New Zealand.
